2008 Captain Bill Earle Creative Writing Contest Results Wednesday, May 07, 2008
Sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association, the Captain Bill Earle Creative Writing Contest is intended to encourage creative writing by cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The contest honors Captain William K. Earle, (Ret.), USCGA Class of 1940, former Executive Director of the Alumni Association and former Editor of the Association’s magazine, The Bulletin. Captain Earle passed away in March of 2006.
The Alumni Association thanks the judges for this year’s contest, Mr. Peter Marcus and Ms. Rose Gorman. They have certainly helped us to celebrate the creativity of our cadets.
The authors of the top three entries in each of two categories (prose and poetry) will receive cash prizes, funded by the USCGA Alumni Association. Additionally, the top three entries in each category will be published in future issues of the Association’s magazine, The Bulletin, and posted on the USCGA Alumni Association’s website.
Congratulations to the winning authors and poets.
The top poems are:
“Cancion para Elena” by Cadet Emily Kehrt, ’09 “Jane Jenkins: A Conversation with Poets Passed” by Cadet JC Hauser, ’11 “Wonders of My Life” by Midshipman Tara Sutcliff, ’09
