USCGA and Alumni in the News
Two of three currently-serving American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Federal Government Fellows are USCGA graduates: Philip Grosweiller, ’66, and George Borlase, ’95. Phil is working with the staff of Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM), a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. During his fellowship, he will apply his extensive skills in gas field operations and gas transmission systems to ongoing national security and energy planning programs in the federal government. George is serving in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, an executive office of the United States president. See the ASME press release, or read more about George in the April 2008 issue of The Bulletin. Phil will be featured in our June issue.
Cadet Bobby Brown, ’08, is now a 7-time All American in swimming, having earned All-America honors in two events at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at Wooster College in March. Brown, who had earned five All-America honors entering this year's championship, placed sixth in the 1,650 freestyle event and eighth in the 200 freestyle event. Additional details can be found at the USCGA Sports website.
Cadet Travis Murray, ’09, is the Eastern Collegiate Boxing Association's Champion in his weight class (165 lbs.). An exchange cadet at the Air Force Academy this spring, he will be competing in the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships, in Reno NV, April 10-12.
Coast Guard Channel visited the Coast Guard Academy in late March of 2007. They had a chance to sit down with some of the Cadets, the Rugby Team, and Captain Judith Keene (the Commandant of Cadets) to talk about life at the Academy. The approximately 10-minute piece is a great overview of today's Coast Guard Academy. Link here to view the final video, available only on the Coast Guard Channel.
