Ground is broken on USCGA Columbarium
The idea for a USCGA Columbarium was brought to the Alumni Association Board of Directors by VADM Bruce Beran ’57 and RADM Tom Matteson ’57 with the theme “Yes, you can come home” for those academy graduates and their spouses who choose to be inurned on the grounds of the Coast Guard Academy. Ground was broken on April 3, 2014 for the construction of the first structure to be completed this fall.

Dr. Ernest J. Manfred Named CGA Distinguished Professor Emeritus
The Academy recognized the contributions of Dr. Ernest J. Manfred on April 11 and awarded him the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. This is the first time in over a decade that the Academy has awarded this prestigious title.

Academy Announces 2014 Hall of Heroes Inductees
From a pool of over 40 highly qualified and distinguished nominees, five heroes were selected by a panel of cadets who best exemplified the Coast Guard's core values while acting courageously under extreme duress.

Secretary Johnson to Speak at CGA Commencement
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s 133rd Commencement Exercises on May 21. Secretary Johnson is the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security and assumed his office on December 23, 2013.

Entire Bulletin Archive (1939-2013) now available online
The Alumni Association is proud to announce the launch of the online archive of The Bulletin (1939-present). It took the better part of a year to secure clean copies of each issue, scan them (27,710 pages in total), and upload them to an online server that could be accessible anywhere, anytime.

We want to assure you that the Alumni Association's website ( has not been affected by the "Heartbleed" OpenSSL flaw in any way. Our website provider, iModules, does not use OpenSSL for any purpose.

2014 Spring Regimental Review Schedule
The Corps of Cadets is scheduled to march in six regimental reviews at the Academy during the Spring semester.  Reviews will take place every Friday in April at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 20 at 9 a.m.

Women in Command
CAPT Melissa Rivera '91 and CDR Frances Messalle '94 are two of the four women service-wide who command one of the Coast Guard's 28 aviation units. Read more about them in this feature by Coast Guard Compass.

CGA Men's Basketball scrimmages with local youth league
The Academy’s Men’s Basketball Team volunteered their Saturday morning on March 22, 2014 to coach and scrimmage a local youth team from the Ledyard Youth Basketball Instructional Mixed League.

Zukunft Tapped as Next USCG Commandant
President Barack Obama is nominating Vice Adm. Paul F. Zukunft '77, who commands the Coast Guard's Pacific Area, to lead the Coast Guard as the 25th Commandant.

Memorandum of Agreement Signed for National CG Museum
Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, along with Commandant ADM Robert J. Papp Jr., '77, New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio and James J. Coleman, chairman of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that details the cooperative relationships and mutual commitments required to establish a National Coast Guard Museum along New London’s historic waterfront district.

Nominations Sought for 2014 Academy Athletic Hall of Fame
Each year, up to four regular members (alumni who graduated at least 20 years ago) and one honorary member (an individual who has made significant contributions to CGA Athletics), can be added to the USCGA Athletic Hall of Fame.
