Alumni awarded patent for cadet project
Four members of the Class of 2011 received a patent for their CGA senior capstone project, which redesigned the flare tube launcher for the Coast Guard's HC-144 fleet.

Alumni Spotlight: Rev. Tracy Mehr-Muska '96

Engineer of the Year Awards goes to CGA Professor
Dr. David Mazurek, a Civil Engineer Professor in the Engineering Department, was selected as the 2015 Coast Guard Engineer of the year based on his educational, professional, and personal achievements.

Alumni return to Academy for Distinguished Graduates Panel
CDR Charles King '71, Mr. Tim Atkin '85, CAPT Melissa Rivera '91 and LCDR Sean Plankey '03 returned to their alma mater on Thursday, November 13 to impart "lessons learned and words of wisdom" to the current Corps of Cadets.

Columbarium Dedicated and Gifted to the Academy
Eleven Coast Guard Academy alumni and three of their spouses were inurned at the Academy on October 17 following the dedication of the Coast Guard’s first official Columbarium located in Crown Park. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, at which the Alumni Association gifted the $325,000 structure to the Academy, as well as, initial site improvements and landscaping. 

Sailing - Cadets place third at National Championship
2/c Avery Fanning and 4/c Dana Rohde each finished third in their division at the 2014 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships in November. Coast Guard was the only team to have two sailors finish in the top three.

Boxing: CGA's 1/c Taylor Tennyson in the Spotlight
"A light heavyweight from Virginia Beach, 1/c Taylor Tennyson might be the best pound-for-pound college fighter in the country. He owns two national titles and was the headliner at a show last week that featured fighters from the Coast Guard Academy, the United States Military Academy and a nearby Air Force base." VIDEO: Academy inducts Alumni into Hall of Heroes
At a inspiring ceremony inside Leamy Hall the Academy honored and welcomed the 2014 Wall of Gallantry inductees into its Hall of Heroes: LT John Pritchard '38 (posthumously), RADM William Stewart '49 (posthumously), CAPT John Denninger '62, CAPT David Andrews '63, and LT James Ellis II '66.

Alfultis '82 Appointed President of SUNY Maritime
SUNY Maritime College inaugurated CAPT Michael A. Alfultis, USCG (ret), Ph.D. '82 as its 11th president on Friday, November 7 in the campus’ new Maritime Academic Center.

Father honors his daughters’ service with his car
Proud parent Shahrooz Pourmonir has a unique way or honoring his daughters' service: his car, which is covered in 117 magnets and stickers that show his support for the Coast Guard. Three out of four of his daughters have attended the Academy representing the classes of 2010, 2014 and 2017.

ROWING: Cadets & Alumni row in Head of the Charles Regatta
CGA Rowing, cadets and alumni, posted strong performances at this year’s Head of the Charles in Boston, MA. For the first time in team history the Coast Guard Men earned automatic qualification for two entries, the Women’s Varsity Eight placed 21st, and the Men’s Alumni Eight finished in the top half of the field.

Call for Hall of Heroes Nominations
The Coast Guard Academy is soliciting for nominees to be inducted into the Hall of Heroes in the fall of 2015. A maximum of 5 graduates will be selected to be honored on the Wall of Gallantry.
