Coast Guard Honors Fallen Crew of CG 6541
LT Mark Kotek '88, along with the rest of the crew who lost their lives in the July 12, 1994 accident, were honored at a ceremony 20 years later at Air Station Humboldt Bay.

ADM Allen Named Next Tyler Chair
ADM Thad W. Allen '71 has been named the next James S. Tyler Distinguished Chair in Leadership Development at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. "I am delighted with the opportunity the Tyler Chair provides to develop cadet leaders who will be equipped to serve our nation as we face the challenges of an ever-changing world,” said Allen.

Class of 2018 Reports to the Academy
On June 30, 256 U.S. citizens and seven international students took the oath before family, friends, and Academy personnel to officially begin four years of undergraduate study, community service and preparation for entry into the United States Coast Guard Officer Corps.

Sailing family sends three daughters to Coast Guard Academy
Dan and Carrie Rohde, both Merchant Marine Academy alumni, have now sent three daughters to the Coast Guard Academy.  Youngest daughter Dana reported in with the Class of 2018, following in the footsteps of her sisters, Devon '15 and Krysta '11.

VIDEO: USCGC Courier Exhibit Opens at Museum
As featured in the December 2013 Bulletin, the USCGC Courier was transformed into the mobile broadcasting base of the Voice of America in the 1950s. A new exhibit at the USCG Museum at the Academy honors the ship and its unique mission.

Center for Arctic Strategy & Policy included in USCG's 2014 Arctic Priorities
Out of a list of 14 priorities for 2014, establishing a Center for Arctic Strategy and Policy at the Academy is number 3. The goal of the center would be to enhance research and expertise for international Arctic operations.

CGA Names New Women's Lacrosse Head Coach
The Coast Guard Academy has named Ruth Ness, former assistant coach at Bowdoin Univeristy, head coach of the women's lacrosse team. The program begins its first season of competition as a varsity sport in the Spring of 2015.

CGA Names New Wrestling Coach
The Coast Guard Academy has named Kevin Bratland head wrestling coach and professor of health and physical education. Bratland was the head coach at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois for the past eight seasons.

Alfultis '82 Appointed President of SUNY Maritime
Dr. Michael A. Alfultis '82, a retired U.S. Coast Guard captain, and the director and chief administrative officer of the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus, has been named as the next president of the SUNY Maritime College.

DHS Secretary Addresses CG's Newest Officers
Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson welcomed the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Class of 2014 as the service’s newest complement of officers at Commencement on 21 May.

Distinguished Graduates Sought
The USCGA Alumni Association and the Academy’s Institute for Leadership are seeking Coast Guard Academy graduates to share their experiences and insights with today’s Corps of Cadets for the Annual Distinguished Graduates Panel (sponsored by the Class of 1974) on November 13.

"Yes, You Can Come Home"
The USCGA Columbarium Dedication is scheduled for October 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The idea for a USCGA Columbarium was brought to the Alumni Association Board of Directors by VADM Bruce Beran ’57 and RADM Tom Matteson ’57 for those academy graduates and their spouses who choose to be inurned on the grounds of the Coast Guard Academy.
