Sailing - CGA Women Ranked #1
The CGA Women's Team remains ranked #1 for the second straight national ranking of the fall season, while the Co-ed Team moved from 15th to 9th in the country. In addition, two cadets have qualified for the National Championship to be sailed at Western Washington University on November 7-9.

Soccer-Men's Team Back in the Top 25
In late September CGA Men's Soccer cracked the Top 25 for the first time in school history coming in at #23. Following wins against Albertus Mangnus and Emerson, the Coast Guard men's soccer team find themselves in the national rankings once again.

Plankey '03 receives Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan
LCDR Sean Plankey '03 deployed to Afghanistan for 7 months, where his innovative strategies in cyber operations resulted in his receiving the Bronze Star. “I was totally amazed and honored to receive the award,” he said. “They said that I had opened a door for tactical operations that had never been done before.”

Do You Own a Piece of CGA Athletic History?
The Alumni Association, in partnership with the Otto Graham Athletic Legacy Fund, has been working with the Coast Guard Academy and its Athletic Division to plan for a new display within Billard Hall at the Academy that will be a celebration of the athletic programs of the Academy. Our project committee seeks historically significant items for inclusion in the displays.

Allegretti '05 wins gold preparing for NYC Marathon
In August, while training for the NYC marathon this November, LT Hillary Allegretti '05 participated in the the Gay Games Olympic-distance triathlon in Cleveland, OH, where she took home the gold in the women’s 30 to 34 age group with a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes, 22 seconds.

LT Conor Sullivan '05, commanding officer of the USCGC Sitkinak, was featured in the New Jersey's Advance's article about the Coast Guard's aging fleet.

Academy establishes Center for Arctic Study and Policy
The Center will serve as an operational think tank to focus on emerging Arctic issues and collaborate with the DHS Science and Technology Directorate’s network of Centers of Expertise and others for the advancement of safe, secure, and environmentally responsible maritime activity in the Arctic. Mr. Jim Ellis '66 and Dr. Lawson Brigham '70 have been appointed fellows at the new Center.

IFL News - Class of ’79 Adds “Pre-flection” Dinners to CSTP
Through the generous contributions from the Class of 1979, the summer Coastal Sail Training Program (CSTP) expanded its leader development by adding “pre-flection dinners” while continuing its mid-sortie reflection dinners.
