Andrea Marcille ’89 to Succeed Jim Sylvester ’71 as Alumni Association President
The USCGA Alumni Association is pleased to announce the selection of CAPT Andrea Marcille, USCG (ret), ’89 as the next president of the organization. She will be replacing CDR Jim Sylvester, USCG (ret), ’71 on January 1, 2015.

2014 Alumni Awardees and Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Announced
The recipients of the 2014 Alumni Association Awards and those selected for induction into the USCGA Athletic Hall of Fame (class years represented include 1949, 1964, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1981, 1989, 1994, and 2002) will be honored at a special dinner reception on Thursday, October 9 at the Academy's Officer's Club. USCGC Eagle's return home to New London on August 8 is short lived, as the historic ship prepares to head to the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, MD for a four-year overhaul.

ADM Papp '75 Tapped for Diplomatic Post in Arctic
The Obama Administration has appointed ADM Robert J. Papp '75 to be the first U.S. Special Representative for the Arctic. Secretary of State John Kerry cited ADM Papp's broad foreign policy experience and passion for the region as the basis for his selection.

VADM Manson Brown '78 Nominated for Obama Adminstration Post
President Obama has nominated VADM Manson Brown, USCG (ret), '78 to be the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Observation and Prediction at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

'05 Alumna Receives Award for her Accounting Skills
LT Karen Appel '05 recently received the Meritorious Award in Accounting and Finance Category from the American Society of Military Comptrollers for her efforts in streamlining the process of accounting for property and expenses.

Do You Own a Piece of CGA Athletic History?
The Alumni Association, in partnership with the Otto Graham Athletic Legacy Fund, has been working with the Coast Guard Academy and its Athletic Division to plan for a new display within Billard Hall at the Academy that will be a celebration of the athletic programs of the Academy. Our project committee seeks historically significant items for inclusion in the displays.

USCG Museum Association to Produce CG History Book
The Coast Guard Museum Association is proud to present a hardcover pictorial book chronicling the United States Coast Guard’s 224-year history, from its inception to the building of the National Coast Guard Museum in New London. This heirloom-quality commemorative book will capture the proud heritage of this branch of the service.

Men's Basketball: Season to Open in Puerto Rico
The men's basketball team will open its season against Hampden-Sydney College on Friday, Nov. 14, as part of the Armed Forces Classic on the United States Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico.
