CGA Superintendent Appointed to Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council; also named one of Newsweek's "150 Women Who Shake the World"

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has appointed Rear Adm. Sandra Stosz of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to the Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council. The new council, comprised of prominent university presidents and academic leaders, is charged with advising the Secretary and senior leadership at the Department on several key issues.  

“Stosz's extensive experience and expertise will make her a valuable asset to the Council,” said Secretary Napolitano. “I look forward to working with her on these critical issues.”  

The new council underscores the Department’s commitment to working with the academic community.  In this noteworthy role, Stosz will provide advice and recommendations on issues related to student and recent graduate recruitment; international students; academic research; campus and community resiliency, security and preparedness; and faculty exchanges.  Stosz will attend the group’s inaugural meeting on March 20 in Washington, D.C.

In addition, RADM Stosz was named to Newsweek's list of "150 Women Who Shake the World," next to such notables as Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey. Stosz earned her spot for "knocking down gender barriers in the U.S. Military since she joined more than 30 years ago." Click here to view the full list.
