Bear Club support will continue to be crucial in providing the best experience possible to USCGA cadet-athletes.

Bear Club at the NE Rowing Championship
The Bear Club was proud to sponsor a hospitality tent during the New England Rowing Championship held on April 30th in Worcester, MA. This turned out to be another great Bear day as alumni and parents were able to gather with the men’s and women’s rowing team directly in the tent village. Being in close proximity to the regatta everyone was easily able to cheer on the Bears and visit comfortably during the downtime throughout the day.

Bear Club at CGA Men's Lacrosse in MD
Thank you to all alumni, parents, and friends who joined us this past weekend in Annapolis, MD in support of CGA Lacrosse! More than 300 people attended the pregame tailgate at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Special shout out to the most senior CGA alum in attendance, CDR Jack Steffey ’47. The game was one half of a Service Academy doubleheader that included Army vs. Navy followed by Coast Guard vs. Merchant Marine. While the Bears came up just short, losing in double overtime, it was a great Coast Guard weekend filled with Bear spirit! Mark your calendar now for a similar Bear Club event to be held next year on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at West Point.

Bear Club Visits the Fleet
This month I extend a tremendous THANK YOU to the officers and crew of the CGC TAHOMA, and in particular the TAHOMA’s CO, CDR Tim Brown ‘96. In early April CDR Brown invited me to spend five days at sea following a port call in New London. As a civilian and someone with no prior connection to the Coast Guard or any branch of the military, this was an invaluable experience that broadened my understanding of the Service and deepened my appreciation for the mission of the Academy. During my time on board two very powerful takeaways impacted me.
Bear Club Donor Spotlight: The Johnsons
Last year more than 35% of all Bear Club gifts came from parents of cadets. The Bear Club depends greatly on parents like Jeff and Bernece Johnson in order to provide the financial resources necessary to sustain and enhance the resources available to CGA Athletics. Bernece and Jeff’s daughter Ashlee arrived on campus in the summer of 2014 as a recruited athlete for the Track & Field team. “We recognized that our daughter was beginning a fantastic journey and we wanted to do what we could to continue to support her,” Jeff explained.
