LDC Officer Accessions is charged to provide exceptional training and leader development to all Coast Guard officers not accessed through the Coast Guard Academy. Training programs include:

  • Officer Candidate School (OCS),
  • Direct Commission Officer (DCO) Indoctrination Course, and
  • Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination (ROCI)

The school house started training in 1942 on the grounds of the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Training programs were transferred to Reserve Training Center, Yorktown, Virginia in 1959 and subsequently relocated back to New London in 1998 as part of the Leadership Development Center. The school house currently graduates over 50% of the Coast Guard's annual active duty officer commissions and 100% of reserve commissions.

Graduates are competent junior officers that are imbued with honor, respect, and devotion to duty and are prepared to serve the Coast Guard and the nation.

To ensure that its students are ready to assume the responsibilities of their initial assignments, the school's obligation is to increase exposure to operational specialties, focusing on a maritime core, and to enhance officership and leadership skills. Since 2010 all OCS graduates are assigned to an operational unit or flight training upon graduation.
