6 AUG - LIVE Interview with Ms. Erskine Grace Hussey, SPAR

10:30 a.m. - Noon

Get to know Ms. Hussey and her legacy in the USCG SPARs during World War II. Learn of her experiences during bootcamp held at Hunter College in Bronxville, NY to A-school, her assignment as a first female coxswain and later Company Commander. Read Ms. Hussye's biography.

Week 2: Stronger Together: Coast Guard Leadership, Diversity & Inclusion

12 AUG - Diversity & Inclusion Discussion with Captain Laura Collins and Mr. Miguel Avilés

9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Are you interested in how the new Coast Guard Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan applies to you? If so, please join us as we hear from our senior leaders implementing the plan. This discussion will be led by Captain Laura Collins, Deputy to the Director of Civilian Human Resources, Diversity and Leadership and Miguel Avilés  Chief, Office of Diversity and Inclusion. 14 AUG - A Journey to a Road Less Traveled: Panel Discussion led by Captain Merchant, Deputy Commander, Sector NY

1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Members around the Coast Guard are having hard conversation in regards to race, gender, equality and intersectionality. During this panel, Captain Merchant, the third African American female selected for Captain in Coast Guard history will host a dynamic panel of highly accomplished Coast Guard trailblazers from diverse backgrounds and cultures coming together to share their life experiences and learned lessons to inspire the next generation. Week 3: Leadership Philosophy Writing Workshop: OWN IT Your Way

18 AUG & 20 AUG - Leadership Philosophy Writing Workshop: OWN IT Your Way

9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

This instructor-led workshop will focus on identifying your personal values and priorities and crafting your written leadership statement; a tool used to promote communication and shared understanding.

This workshop will take place twice via the Zoom platform. Each session is open to 15 participants. Registration is required.

Week 4: Where Do We Go From Here: Guest Speaker Presentation

24 AUG - Unconscious Biases: Communicating Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace with Dr. Tracie Keesee

Time 1300

This is MANDATORY TRAINING for ALL Sector New York personnel, including subunits.

As an entire Sector, we will be discussing "justice through science", the concept of unconscious biases and the effects on interpersonal relationships and decision making. Dr. Keesee will share her perspective and extensive knowledge on this subject matter followed by a question and answer session from audience participants. Learn more about Dr. Keesee.
