An Update from Becky

August 11, 2020

I cannot thank you all enough for the outpouring of generosity and support for me and my family. Cody and I have been able to spend a lot of time together as we are only 2 doors apart. We have breakfast together, color and make our rounds. The doctors have given Cody a tricycle to ride around the floor as the burns on his legs are preventing him from comfortable walking and I hop along as quickly as I can behind him. Cody and I are both having surgery today to have healthy skin attached to burned areas. This is a big step in the right direction for both of us. My mother and sister are on their way out here and we have amazing friends who have been by our sides here in Utah. Thank you again for your incredible support. ~Becky

Supporting Our Classmate

On July 25, 2020, Rebecca (Becky) Boice Wyckoff '06 was in a tragic plane crash in West Jordan, UT. This crash resulted in the heartbreaking loss of her husband and infant daughter, leaving Becky and her 2 year old son hospitalized with extensive burns and injuries. The road to recovery for her and her extended family will be long and arduous; both physically and emotionally. Becky and her son are hospitalized across the country from her family support network and will need support to facilitate family travel expenses from Pennsylvania to Utah, funeral expenses, and other recovery needs. All funds raised will be provided to Becky’s family via her sister, Jessica Boice. Any and all donations, regardless of size, are greatly appreciated by Becky, her family, and the Class of 2006. Both a Coast Guard Reservist with Sector Maryland, and a dedicated civil servant as a Coast Guard Employee at CG-81, Becky has dedicated her entire 18-year professional career path to the CG, our missions, and to our nation. It is our duty to return that support to her in her time of need. Duty to People. Pride never quits.

Awe inspired, we are astounded at the results of this fundraiser, meeting it’s initial $40,000 goal within one day. As Becky’s family begins to arrive in Utah, and Becky and Cody’s recoveries get underway, we are just now learning of how hard and long this challenge will persist. As such, we are upping the ante and goal to $80,000 in order to provide targeted support to expenses we did not incorporate in our original estimate, for example: child care expenses Becky and Cody will likely need for an indeterminate future. We cannot express enough appreciation to those who have given, as well as those who have provided support through other means, including the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program and those who support CGMA which provided direct and initial financial support to Becky’s family, and several other initiatives underway. Know that these donations are being provided 100% to Becky and her family to support them to be together during the initial recovery, and to help Becky along the long road of recovery. One thing is certain; Becky and Cody are fighters, she will make it with our help.

The USCGA Alumni Association is providing support in conjunction with the Coast Guard Foundation and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance.
